Hallucination, delusion or was it really ghosts at the hospital's alley?

An experience that I think is worth sharing, not to scare you but something to learn from on different aspects of my RadioActive Iodine Treatment at Perpetual Succour Hospital in Cebu. The intention of the article is not to push belief on supernatural beings but get you lesson across. The main points include sharing my experience at Room 369 while I was doing my treatment, understanding supernatural events outside the box and spiritual guidance after therapy.

The Series of Events.

  • I was admitted at Room 36, 3rd floor at Perpetual Succour Hospital last March 5, 2018 at 6AM
  • Took the RadioActive Iodine Pill at 9:45AM on the same day
  • Took pictures of the alley,  my room, RAI equipments and signs same day at 12:45PM
  • Posted a blog about Guidelines for Patients Receiving RadioIodine Treatment at 2:18PM
  • Blog posted includes photos of the equipments, signs, hallway and a video of the RAI pill

Original photo taken on March 5 at around 12:45 noon. EXIF - ISO 80, 4.15mm f/2.2 1/30sec on iPhone 6s. No image manipulation nor filter applied.

The day when I took the pill, I felt anxious about the effects of RAI, was waiting for any symptoms and signs and wasn't able to sleep. I kept drinking water, kept munching on method candies and peeing a lot. Uneasy with the situation and after effects, I kept going back and forth within the four walls of my room then started hearing noises and seeing strange things.
  • A little girl ages between 8-10 short wavy hair on her Sunday's-best,  kept running back at forth, playing hide and seek at the corridor within the 4 RAI allotted rooms - yes, across where I am in! Then disappears.
Reviewed my previous blog post photos and realized there's someone out there behind the metal panel.
Adjustment done: Zoomed 4x. Mid Tone adjustment from 1 to 2.30 to give emphasis and adding of red oblong.
  • Seeing a lady in her 40's, heard her flushing the toilet twice on the section where the doctor prepares the pill. Looks uneasy, walks in and out of the room then disappears. There are allocated rooms on the other side for family members to stay since the RAI allocated room are off limits.
  • A stocky, short and dark guy on his 30s. Uneasy and checking each room through peeping on the glass windows from the RAI section to the normal rooms, walks across til the exit to the elevator, goes back then disappears.
With these experience, my logical instinct tells me to read more on the after effects of RAI - prolly hormones doing their weird stuff, hallucinations, acute psychosis, pareidolia - a type of spontaneous perception of connections and meaningfulness of unrelated phenomena, which is a more generalized term for seeing patterns in random data. Which I need to confirm with my doctors if this are just thoughts or effects of the medicine.

I kept hearing the voices, seeing the little girl play, dark guy checking the room until Wednesday night. It was 3 day sleepless nights.

I shared the experience with a friend through FB messenger, Flicker, who was also on duty at the same place where I am admitted and he somehow brushed it off, and that he heard some stories about it too - of this little girl and that woman. Upon reading what he shared, my curiosity kicked in trying to understand the whole line of thought. Puzzled, I read more on delusions, hallucination and mental effects of RAI.

Not until...

Thursday - a scheduled whole body scan needs to be done.

After the scan, I've got the chance to talk to Dr Tan, who explained about the scan, the results, and the ongoing monitoring. Then I was given the chance to ask questions after. I asked him about after effects of RAI to my body, my mental health and the way I perceived things - specific about paranoia, hallucination, delusion or even pareidolia. He said, it is less likely to experience such symptoms and of less possibility as I have not that extremely high dose of RAI.  I showed him the photos I took, then he smiled.

I thought I was right on medical reasons, of the after effects of the medicine on seeing and hearing things. The photos on this blog and the doctor's comment on the topic contrary to my belief, proves

This let me pause for a moment and offered a little prayer to these uneasy souls.
This let me realize that aside from seeking medical help, strengthening spiritual health and belief also is vital on this fight against thyroid cancer.
This let me rekindle my curiosity to ask and answer every question that I have in me to understand fully what's out there.

Today's the 4th Sunday of Lent, let's take part.

Heard the 9:30AM Mass at San Lorenzo Ruiz Parish, Tisa Cebu City

RadioActive Tips while Hearing Mass
  • Even you are RadioActive and emitting Gamma Rays still, it should be a hindrance to do your Sunday obligations.
  • Go to church early, find a seat away from people or at east about 2-3 meters away from them.
  • The first few front seats usually will be vacant and is for the readers - these are ladies who are 60 years old and above. Being RadioActive has less effect on them than pregnant women and children but still be cautious to seat at least 2 meters away from them. This gets you good vantage point.
  • If you wanted to go and take part of the communion, be the last person to receive it.
  • Go out slowly before the final blessing when the mass is about to end so that you won't have a hard time swerving from the public.

"And just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the desert, so must the Son of Man be lifted up,
so that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life."
